Some people identify themselves as being a very “intuitive person” while others struggle with the concept. They think that they don’t have the ability to know information without conscious thought – that intuition is a gift that has only been given to a small number of people. That isn’t true! In this post, we’ll explore how everyone can develop their intuition.
#1: Everyone can access their intuition
You might guess that an important first step to developing your intuition is believing it exists and you have access to it. The ability to fully embrace this idea may take time, but as long as you are continually working toward acceptance, you are working toward access!
#2: We enter the world as highly intuitive beings
An important next step is realizing that most people come to the world with a higher sense of connection; you’re born highly intuitive because you have an open channel of communication with spirits and guides.
At some point, most people shut down the access they have to their intuition. Typically in our childhood, we receive too much information we can’t handle and, to protect ourselves, we block the messages we are receiving. It’s also common for children to express their intuition and be told to stop. These can be confusing messages for children, but often they will cut their ties to the spirits they are hearing to make the people they are engaging with on a daily basis (parents, teachers, etc.) happy.
#3: Allow what wants to be healed to be healed
It’s also important to acknowledge what messages want to be heard and what in this world wants to be healed. While you can develop your intuition through practice, you can’t force intuition to “work” on command. Be open to hear from what wants to be healed.
Accessing Your Intuition
Once you’re ready to begin developing your intuition, you may find the following steps helpful. Remember: Developing your intuition requires time, patience, and practice, and the process is different for everyone. These next steps can help you move through developing your intuition in the way that works best for you.
- Be present. Notice what you are feeling. Don’t judge yourself or become distracted by the question of “Am I doing this right?” Accept that it is different for everyone and follow the path that is right for you.
Trust your body’s intuition. Intuition speaks to you through feelings, but those feelings can be missed if you ignore sensations.
Be aware of your mind’s intuition. Different from your body’s messages, your mind will send you clear direction as well. Quiet the other chatter – your to-do list, an argument you had with a neighbor, etc. – an listen for those messages.
Observe when your mind blocks your intuition. As you develop your intuition, you may begin to feel overwhelmed. You’ll realize all of the feelings you’re having aren’t yours, but it may take time for you to manage those feelings. As a child when you were unable to manage those feelings, you likely disconnected and distanced yourself from the experience. As an adult, you can choose to reconnect.
Turn up the volume of your intuition by breathing. As you navigate this new space, focusing on your breathing will help you stay grounded and focused. Mindfully breathe through these processes and remind yourself that, like everything else, this will take practice.
People shut down because of fear – but you can overcome that fear. If you feel drawn into connecting with your guides, it means you’re ready to remember and reconnect to your intuition. Your body can receive what your mind can’t understand yet. Just receive what you are being offered in gratitude.
