It’s the time of year when everyone is talking about goals. Maybe you’re making New Year’s resolutions, making the “to-do” list for the new year, and promising yourself that THIS year is going to be different. You’re going to make it ALL happen. No matter what.
Sounds like a lot of pressure, though, doesn’t it? Sometimes, the more stress you put on yourself to make something specific happen, the more likely you’ll find yourself disappointed and let down if it doesn’t go the way you planned.
This has happened to me, and on more than one occasion.
Back in 2013, I had just received certification as a Sacred Money Archetypes coach. And out of the blue, I got this idea that I wanted to jump right into group coaching. I was sure I could fill my program fast even though I had no idea how internet marketing worked at the time.
I was determined to make it work. And I was convinced that I’d sign up 100 people for this new adventure, no problem.
Turns out that when all was said and done, I got FOUR people.
Talk about a “reality check,” right?
So what did I do next? I could’ve let it become a reason to quit, to give up, to get the idea that group coaching would never work for me. Instead, I tried a different approach.
I went into my own Akashic Records, and I discovered that there were beliefs that I created with the memory of this experience. I was able to clear away the fears that came up with this “failure” of a launch. And I received back the wisdom that this experience was intended to impart to me.
Over the next three years after that–between 2014 and 2017–I’ve had the pleasure of welcoming over 1500 students into all of the group programs that I’ve offered through the Akashic Records Institute.
That’s a lot greater of a result than the original 100 students I thought I had to have for my group programs, isn’t it?
Back in 2013 I had a goal, I didn’t make it, and I felt pretty devastated at first. But then I learned how to let go of the fears that this experience created, while at the same time learning the lessons it showed up to teach me.
Not only that, but I also began seeing the process of goal-setting itself from a whole new perspective, and it has changed my life (not to mention my goal lists every New Year’s!).
I’ve come up with the three most important pieces of wisdom that I gained through all of my goal-setting experiences. Let me share with you a fresh perspective on goals that will inspire you as you plan your vision for 2018! These three tips have made a big difference in my life, and I trust they’ll do the same for you.
#1: Embrace the PRIVILEGE of Failure. Is the fear of failure making you stop before you even start? I’ve noticed that this is often the biggest goal-stopper of all.
But what if I told you that failure might actually be a gift? What if it’s not something to be avoided but rather something to be embraced?
When that group program that I launched in 2013 failed to bring in 100 students, I felt like quitting. But instead I decided to move forward with the four who showed up. And you know what? The program turned out to be a fantastic experience for everyone involved.
Most of all, I learned more than I ever would’ve had my original vision of 100 students came true. So even though technically it was a “failure”, I learned invaluable lessons that set me up for even greater successes in the future.
So if you ever find yourself choked up at the idea of failing, start seeing failure as a privilege rather than a punishment. Consider all of your ideas, projects, and launches an opportunity to learn, grow, and expand. Then take action to start making them happen!
Even if something doesn’t go the way you wanted it to, you’ll get valuable wisdom. You’ll also learn to be a lot less hard on yourself. And you’ll begin to understand that wherever you are on your path right now is the perfect place for you.
That is, the things that you’re learning by taking action now are the things that are paving the way to your future dreams.
But all of this can only happen if you take action in the first place, right? So if you have an idea, give it a try. Let go of the outcome you think you should have. And open yourself up to the wisdom that can come from what might look like a “failure.”
#2: Time IS On Your Side (If You Allow It To Be!) If you’re anything like most of us, you want to manifest what you want right NOW. But the truth is that everything happens in its own time. And believe it or not, the timing is always perfect for you. It’s just a matter of seeing it that way!
Think of it this way: you don’t have sex one day and a baby the next, right? Think of your ideas and your dreams as a baby. And babies time to grow and mature.
When you’re setting your lofty goals for the future, you also need to honor what is present right NOW. Why?
Because whatever is happening in your life right now is actually what a part of you wants to manifest. Even if it doesn’t look like the reality that you say you want.
The key here is to bring the part of you that created your current situation into alignment with the part of you who has a grander vision of the future.
The first part is to to acknowledge the attachments that the ego is using to trigger you into staying where you are. The old contracts and beliefs that might’ve been there for years, with or without your knowledge.
Then it’s time to clear the fears of these experiences away, while at the same time keeping the wisdom that they bring. Akashic clearings help you to clear this attachment from the past so that you can align the part of you living in the now with the part of you who is ready to move forward.
You see, what you desire the most, desires you. Your dreams coming true are just a matter of time and consistency. It’s about aligning with your masculine and feminine energies and creating a balance between being and doing. And this sometimes takes time.
So give TIME to time. Don’t beat yourself up if what you desire hasn’t happened yet. And don’t give up, either. Trust, allow, and honor the NOW. It’s the best way to move forward.
#3 What is REALLY Driving You? (The Mindset Behind Your Actions). Back when I opened the Akashic Records Institute, I wanted to get the word out fast. And at the time that meant spending a lot of money on Facebook ads. I was running ads in both English and Portuguese, and I began to notice an interesting trend. Not only in the results I was getting, but also how I was responding to them.
For example, I frequently spent around $100 for Facebook ads in Portuguese to promote a webinar. And often I would get about 3000 people to sign up based on those ads. But other times I would spend up to $1000 on the SAME ads in English.
How many people did those ads bring in? About 100. If I was lucky.
What was even more interesting was how I showed up on a webinar for 3000 people as opposed to a webinar for 300 people. I gave it all I had for the bigger crowd….and for the smaller groups? Well, I was there. I honored my commitment. But that was about it.
What do you think happened next? Yep, you guessed it. My business in Portuguese was soaring, while my company in English was drifting along aimlessly.
That’s when I made a shift that completely changed my business AND my life. I decided to show up, 100%, all the time. I decided to give it all I had, no matter if there were ten people or 10,000 people listening.
I shifted my mindset and set a new intention: If I can empower the life of even ONE person with what I am doing, then I am living my purpose.
I felt lighter, less pressured, and more aligned from that moment on. And guess what else happened? Now both of my businesses–English and Portuguese–are both doing amazingly well.
So just like everything else in life, mindset and intentions are everything. No matter what you’re doing, from sending an email to your list to hosting a webinar, shift your mindset to allow the highest possible outcome. Set the intention that if what you do impacts the life of even one person, you’ve already met your goal.
That’s how you know that you’re living on purpose. And the results just might be magical.
So when you’re sitting down to make that list of resolutions, create your vision board, or however you approach goal creation, I invite you to keep these tips in mind. In fact, if you have a few moments, think about one goal for 2018 right now.
Think about one thing that you want to move toward, manifest, or create, or open up to receive. Bring it into your consciousness, and write that goal down, if you wish. Then every single day, put these tips into practice.
Take action and embrace the outcome, even if it seems like a failure. Give yourself the gift of time and honor the divine timing that is working for you. And set the intention that whatever you do will be for the highest good, regardless of the outcome. It will be a chance to learn, grow, and expand. And if you impact even one person’s life by showing up, you’ve already won.
