You have probably heard horror stories about what happens when people win the lottery. So many times, it’s the same sad tale…
Somebody wins 100 million dollars. They start living like a multi-millionaire. But in a few years, it all blows up in their face. They lose all their money, and they’re back to zero.
So why does this happen, and what does it have to do with you and your business? Let me explain…
The reason that so many lottery winners lose everything is that they simply were not ready for that kind of expansion.
Now, here is why this concept matters to you if you are an entrepreneur (or you want to be one!)
The biggest struggle for entrepreneurs happens when thy try to skip the steps of setting a solid foundation. It’s trying to receive a level of expansion that you just aren’t ready for.
Much like the lottery winners, this is the moment when things fall apart for new entrepreneurs!
I made many of these mistakes in the early days of my business. But it led me to discover something that changed the game for my business.
I discovered what I call the 4 Stages of Business.
Basically, following the 4 Stages of Business pathway will help you create the business of your dreams, and in a lot less time! You’ll skip the pitfalls that keep new entrepreneurs stuck, and you will finally achieve the success that you dream about.
How can I be so sure? Because I have lived the magic of the 4 Stages of Business myself, and I’ve guided my clients to do the same!
Read on and you’ll learn about the 4 Stages of Business, and how to apply them for your business and life!
You’ll learn how to identify where you really are in your business right now. You’ll learn how to avoid the mistakes at each stage. Then you’ll learn what to do to set the foundation at every point in the game.
In the end, you learn how to create impact, income, and happiness in a lot less time!
Let’s get started!
Stage 1: Startup
In this stage, you’ve just started your new business. You might be making anywhere from zero to $30,000 a year, and your income might be inconsistent at this point. (This is, of course, totally normal at this stage!)
Now, here is where the biggest Stage 1 mistake comes in.
I see people in the Startup stage invest time and money in too many marketing strategies. They buy Facebook ads. They create podcasts. They try to sell a low-ticket offer.
Don’t let all those things distract you at this point. Let’s talk about what to do instead!
Your main focus at this point shouldn’t be fancy marketing strategies. Instead, focus first on your VISION. That is, the vision you have for your business not now, but 3 months from now.
Here is why this is so important…
Everything that you have in your business and life now is actually the result of the energy you were in 3 months ago. So if you want to accelerate your vision, focus on the reality that you wish to have 3 months from now.
Focus today on your vision for tomorrow, and watch what happens!
Now, let’s talk about action steps. The most important action step in the startup phase is simple: focus on getting clients.
It is a simple truth. If you don’t have clients, you don’t have a business. You have a hobby. The good news is that you can do something about this!
Focus on getting 1:1 clients. Make this your main focus. Don’t worry about blogging, podcasts, or Social Media ads. Start filling your roster with paying clients before you do anything else.
That is, start taking people through your transformational process. Guide them to getting results. Start collecting testimonials. Start getting your business on solid financial ground by getting consistent, paying clients.
Finally, the mindset shift in Stage 1 is developing deeper confidence. Because without confidence, all the actions and strategies in the world won’t get you anywhere!
Now, here’s the good part: the more you focus on getting clients, the more experience you get. The more experience you get, the more confident you become.
And of course, the more confident you become, the easier it gets for you to attract more clients–and more money!
See how the steps within the stages work so well together?
Once you master the steps in Stage 1, you’re ready for Stage 2!
Stage 2: Momentum
This stage begins when you’ve started to create consistent income. This means you are creating a minimum income of $3000 a month for at least 3 months in a row.
This is the beginning of the consistency you need to start scaling your business!
Now, the biggest mistake I see people making in the Momentum stage is simple. It’s trying to go from 1:1 clients to a “one to many” model (like group programs) too quickly.
In Momentum, keep your focus on working with 1:1 clients for now. Keep your focus on making an impact on the life of one person at a time. Get really comfortable getting one client, repeating the process, and doing it consistently.
This is the stepping stone to creating a passive, scalable income model. But a consistent 1:1 practice needs to be created first. (This is why we call this stage “Momentum!”)
The biggest mindset shift in Momentum is shifting your relationship with money. Here is what that means…
You need to shift the energy in which you hold yourself. You also need to shift how you invest in both your business and in yourself. Why?
Because these shifts will expand your frequency. They will help you attract more clients who are ready to invest in themselves. They will also help you create space to receive more income.
Before you know it, you will have the financial and energetic capacity to move on to Stage 3!
Stage 3: Impact
At this point, you start to not only make more money but you can start moving the masses! When you move through Stage 3 the right way, it will change both your business and your life. This is the point where things get really exciting!
I got an amazing opportunity last year from a company in Brazil. They invited me to come to Brazil, all expenses paid, to speak at an event. I had the chance to speak on a stage and deliver an Akashic Clearing to an audience of over a thousand people.
It was easily one of the most exciting and fulfilling experiences of my life!
So, how did I get to the point where these amazing opportunities showed up for me? It happened because I scaled my business the right way. Because of this, I got the change to bring my message to a bigger audience.
This is where the biggest Stage 3 mistake comes in. It’s when you don’t quite know how to scale your business. It’s getting past the Momentum point of consistent 1:1 clients, and not knowing how to shift into the “one to many” model.
Make this shift a priority and you will be amazed at how both your impact and your income expand!
Now, the mindset shift in Stage 3 is to bring out more of what makes you unique. It’s about anchoring your business with authenticity. What makes you different from others in your industry? This is the time to share your uniqueness with the world!
Maybe for you, that is focusing on writing blog posts. It could be starting a podcast, or hosting a regular live stream show. All the things that I suggested to avoid in Stage 1 are actually perfect for Stage 3.
This is the time to up your marketing game, so choose a format that feels aligned and makes marketing easy for you! Choose a format or a platform that you love, and start showing up regularly.
Stage 4: Celebrity
I bet the word “celebrity” brings visions of walking on the red carpet at a Hollywood event, right?
But the truth is that you can be a celebrity in your industry without having to be an A-list movie star. In fact, once you master the Impact stage, Celebrity is the natural progression!
So what are the action steps here? There are two major things you need to do, one of which usually surprises people!
First, position your brand as an authority in the marketplace. Second, introduce those low-ticket offers. The biggest mistake I see people make at this point is actually not following both of these steps!
So be sure to position your brand as an authority. Focus on mastering the marketing that you started in the Impact stage.
This is also the time that you have the money and resources to get your message out to even more people. Now is the time for those low-ticket offers that I advised you not to do in Stage 1!
Now, the low-ticket offer part always surprises people. But here’s why low-ticket offers actually work in the Celebrity stage…
When you get to Stage 4, you have the money and the resources to create effective low-ticket offers. You can put them out into the world at price points that are available to just about everyone.
This means that you can reach literally millions of people, and you can change lives on an even bigger scale. This is the beauty of the Celebrity stage, and it’s such an amazing and impactful place to be.
So there you have it! The 4 Stages of Business, and the steps to move through each of them the right way.
Now, reading all this, it might make you feel discouraged about where you are now. But here is what I would say…
Where you are now is perfect for you. Don’t judge yourself for not being where you think you “should be.” Simply acknowledge where you are, and OWN it.
All you have to do then is take the right action and make the right shifts for where you are, and move from there!
For example, if you realize that you’ve been struggling in Stage 1 for years and didn’t know it until now, that’s OK! All this means is that you just need to let go of the strategies that you’re not ready for–YET.
There is a right way to get to your definition of success a lot faster. But first, clear out all the confusion. Let go of the “shoulds.” Let go of the worry that you should be “there” by now. Most important, drop the self-judgment.
Consistent and imperfect action from where you are NOW is your best ally. Don’t let perfectionism or comparison discourage you. Simply take the next best step, then the next one after that.
Do this and everything will start shifting for you!
